Frank Lloyd Wright (June 8, 1867 – April 9, 1959) was one of the world's most prominent and influential architects. He developed a series of highly individual styles, influenced the design of buildings all over the world, and to this day remains America's most famous architect. Wright was also well known in his lifetime. His colorful personal life frequently made headlines, most notably for the failure of his first two marriages and for the 1914 fire and murders at his Taliesin studio.

Wright practiced what is known as organic architecture, an architecture that evolves naturally out of the context, most importantly for him the relationship between the site and the building and the needs of the client. Houses in wooded regions, for instance, made heavy use of wood, desert houses had rambling floor plans and heavy use of stone, and houses in rocky areas such as Los Angeles were built mainly of cinder block.
