Do it Yourself Home Repair

tag
time Posted by paul on September 17th, 2007

When it comes to home repair, I’ll be the first to admit that I get on Google, or grab the phone book and look up a repair man to come to the house. In my last house, I had to completely gut the bathroom. This include a new vanity, toilet and flooring and lights.  Now I did do some of it, to ill effect mostly. But when it came to the hardware installation, I left it to the professionals. Not too sure of myself, I let the pros handle some pretty easy installations. Now, the installations went fine, but I had to spend quite a bit of money to have them do them. I surely could have done some of the installations myself. If I had only found DoItYourself.com before I called. DoitYourself.com is an open, free community with thousands of articles and over 100 active forums on several do-it-yourself home improvement topics. They have a whole section on repairs and installations on the bathroom, including replacing a toilet. The thing is, it’s really not that hard when it comes down to it. I was always told that, but now I have a place to go to for advice and instructions. You just have to have the knowledge and the will power to do it. They even have a “DoItYourself” DVD, that will improve any project. Remember, knowledge is power.

I always try to fix things around the house, as long as I know how to do it, or it doesn’t seem to be that difficult to learn. I do always keep a list of reputable contractors’ numbers handy “just in case” I end up getting in over my head.
